Think Like a Holistic Doctor

If your New Year’s Resolution in 2022 involves improving your health, I am going to give you some tips and insights into my methodology when working with patients.

The human body, to survive, requires nutrition in the form of foods however not all foods are equal and not all “organic” foods are healthy. Nutrition comes from vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and coenzymes which all come from the soil. The two most common whole food sources I recommend which have the most enzymes and nutrients are found within fruits and vegetables.

Fruits and vegetables foods gather nutrients from the soil, we eat the foods and absorb the nutrients which heal our body! Foods that are preserved, packaged, canned, and modified are stripped of their enzymes to increase shelf life. This process of stripping the enzymes from raw foods makes the food devoid of healing nutrients, vitamins, and enzymes normally found in these foods.

Think about raw materials when it comes to foods and how the food is prepared. Heat denatures food and destroys enzymes, vitamins, and nutrients, making the food less beneficial to our health.

Brussels Sprouts are amazing for cleansing the liver however if a restaurant fries the vegetable, the benefits are eliminated. Think about eating foods in their natural state: veggies and fruits should primarily be consumed raw except for squash, potatoes, and root vegetables. Meats are an entirely different subject which I will cover in another blog.

When I am working with patients I recommend they eat fruits, herbs, and large green leafy vegetables such as:
Kale, Chard, Swiss Chard, Collard Greens, Brussels sprouts, Green Beans, Carrots, Beets and beet leaves, Dandelion leaf, Spinach, Radishes and the leaf, Apples, Orange, Grapefruits, Mango, Papaya, Banana, Melons, Berries, Cilantro, Mint, Parsley, Cabbage, Basil, Lemon, Lime, and Ginger Root.

There are so many recipes online and in books for plant-based eating. If you make small changes over a period of a few weeks you will see huge benefits!

Happy New Year!
