Is it really neck pain?

Very often people ask me about the cause of neck pains that start in the back of the head and slowly migrate up to the forehead and behind the eyes.  We are so accustom to thinking that the pains in the body have to of been caused by "something" we lifted, or sitting too long, or even an uncomfortable pillow.

So than why is it that people can experience neck pain for years and years, having tried Chiropractic, Physical Therapy, Acupuncture, Yoga, Nerve injections, Cortisone shots, Stretching, and multiple exercise routines and still experience little to no relief.

Pain does not occur in only one level of the body, we have multiple levels that make up the total sum of who we are.  We have a physical part however we also have a mental, emotional, chemical, structural, biochemical, and spiritual side to us as well.  Since pain is only a symptom that is being felt on the physical level, the cause could have occurred on the emotional level and translated into pain on the physical level.  Very often when working with patients I find that an underactive Thyroid gland will drain the muscles on both sides of the Thyroid, causing a heavy release of minerals from the muscles and thus causing an intense spasm and painful tightening of the neck and SCM muscles.

Electrolytes are imperative in releasing tight muscles because the electrolyte imbalance will be the first component that causes a muscle to spasm.  Some forms of electrolytes that I like the most are:  Bioplasm from Hylands Homeopathics, Coconut water, Apple cider vinegar mixed into 8oz of water, Seaweed, Kelp noodles, all green vegetables and the dark leafy vegetables, especially Kale, and Collard Greens.

Be sure to get your Thyroid levels checked with a full Thyroid panel, not just T3 and TSH.  Thyroid antibodies MUST be checked to rule out Hashimotos and other Auto-immune diseases that will cause a Thyroid to weaken.

As a rule of thumb, the more Gluten and bread products you consume, the faster your Thyroid will become exhausted!
