Food For Thought

I love walking through the grocery store and peeking into the carts of other people shopping next to me.  I notice that the choices they make in foods are having such a negative impact on their body and may severely impact their health in a negative way in the near future.

Most of the foods I notice are packaged, preserved, genetically modified, and sprayed with so many taste enhancers, colorings, and dyes that the substance they are eating is no longer "food."  These foods create such an imbalance in the brain chemistry that simple functions like thought, reaction time, critical thinking, and moods are effected.  The journal of Scientific America published a research report on the devastating effects that chemicals and preservatives have on the brain.

The study involved 100 people where 50 people were given an "unhealthy" breakfast of gluten filled grains, sugars, pastries, bacon, and other stimulants like coffee with cream and sugar.

The second group of 50 people were given freshly squeezed juices, smoothies, fruits, and vegetables with water to drink.  Both groups of participants were given a series of math and English multiple choice test questions to answer.

The group who ate the "unhealthy" foods scored worse overall on all of the tests, had less energy, displayed mood changes, and felt irritable.  The group who ate the "healthy" foods scored better, had much more energy, and had a much better outcome overall on life.

Be very selective on the foods you choose because we truly are what we eat in more ways than one!

As a rule of thumb I recommend eating as little Gluten grains as possible and avoid as many fried foods as possible.  Try to cook your meals as opposed to eating out because you have total control of what you put in to your foods when you personally prepare them.

Try to consume as many green leafy vegetables as possible such as kale, collard greens, spinach, beet leafs, chard, and Bok Choy.  Oils are very powerful antioxidants especially cod liver oil, coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil, grape seed oil, and black currant seed oil.

Cooking with spices like cayenne, cumin, curry, turmeric, and garlic are very beneficial for cellular and heart health as well.

Choose wisely and you will be amazed how good you feel every day just by eating the foods which serve our body well!
